Unfortunately, the closure of courts, to all but essential business, has effectively halted the winding-up of estates for the last month. The back-log is already substantial and sadly will continue to grow as the tragic Covid-19 death toll increases. The delays could be even longer for people who have died without leaving a Will.
An announcement has now been made that the courts will open for applications to be made from Friday 1st May.
If you are in the unfortunate position of having to deal with the administration of an estate, it is important that you instruct a solicitor to proceed with this as much as possible, as it will inevitably take some time from the courts to clear their back-log.
