Artistâs legacy to Gallery Oldham

A gallery in Oldham has been left a substantial bequest of paintings by reknowned local artist, Helen Bradley, reported the Manchester Gazette this week.

The collection, which includes oil paintings, exhibition catalogues, Christmas cards and letters from the artist, comes from the estate of the late Derek and Elizabeth Jewell through national fundraising charity the Art Fund.

Helen Bradley was born in 1900 and, although all of the paintings bequeathed date from 1966-1971, their subject matter is the artistâs Edwardian childhood.

â This is the largest bequest that Gallery Oldham has received for some time and we are absolutely delighted,â said Councillor Barbara Brownridge. âIt is wonderful to be able to give visitors even more insight into the works of such an important local artist.â
