Employees are entitled to work in environments where risks to their health and safety are properly monitored and controlled.
Under health and safety at work legislation, employers have certain duties of care to their employees. These include, for instance, the following duties:-
- to employ competent employees, adequately qualified and experienced;
- to offer adequate training to employees;
- to provide adequate supervision and direction of employees;
- to provide and maintain proper plant, machinery and apparel; and
- to devise and maintain a safe system of working for each employee.
Employees also have a duty to take care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their own actions in the workplace.
